Sydney to host new US Studies Centre
The University of Sydney has been selected to host Australia's new US Studies Centre.
The new think tank brings together leading scholars, politicians, business leaders and thinkers from across Australia and the US to research, debate and create new knowledge on American political, economic, social and cultural issues, and the relationship between the US and Australia.

Save the Tasmanian Devil
The Tassie devil, Australia's largest living marsupial carnivore and a much loved Australian icon, is threatened by a new and fatal disease. Researchers from Australian universities including the University of Tasmania and Murdoch University are working to combat the devastating Devil Facial Tumour Disease, first discovered in the Tasmanian devil population in 1996.

Australian researcher among top 10 'hottest' in the world
University of Newcastle researcher, Professor John Forbes, has been named as one of the top 10 'hottest' researchers in the world, with his inclusion on the Thomson Scientific 'Hottest Researcher' list for 2005 - 2006. John Forbes is Professor of Surgical Oncology at the University of Newcastle, and is involved in numerous breast cancer research programs. The prestigious international citation list recognises people reaching the highest level of success in scientific research each year.

Adelaide launches climate change institute
The University of Adelaide is to play a leading role in climate change research, with the appointment of a new Professor of Climate Change and the establishment of the Research Institute for Climate Change and Sustainability. The Research Institute will draw together expertise in climate change from across the University. "A cross-disciplinary approach to climate change is extremely important, because climate change has the potential to affect many different aspects of our lives," says Professor Barry Brook, who has taken up the position of the Sir Hubert Wilkins Chair of Climate Change.

The complexities and characteristics of the 'special relationship' between Australia and the US is the focus of a new book recently launched in Brisbane. The Other Special Relationship: The United States and Australia at the start of the 21st Century, takes an in-depth look at the unique relationship through the four main themes of foreign policy, strategy, economics and politics. The book is the result of collaborative work by researchers from Griffith University, the Australian National University, Dickinson College and the United States Army War College.
